AIDS New Brunswick | New Brunswick | Sept 2021 - Aug 2022
During my time with AIDS New Brunswick, I provided frontline community support to individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use, housing instability and other complex barriers. My work included street outreach, crisis response, service navigation, referrals and connecting individuals with practical community supports.
Working directly with people in highly vulnerable circumstances strengthened my ability to build trust quickly, respond calmly to immediate needs and provide practical support without losing sight of individual dignity and choice.
This role strengthened my frontline practice in outreach, crisis response, relationship building and community-based problem solving
During street outreach, I identified a simple but often overlooked need among people experiencing homelessness: access to clean underwear and basic hygiene items.
I independently developed Project Underpants, a small community initiative providing clean underwear and basic hygiene items to people experiencing homelessness. The project mobilized community donations and strengthened connections between local organizations, service providers and community supporters.
The initiative also helped strengthen connections between community organizations, service providers and local supporters while addressing a practical issue connected to dignity, health and well-being.
