Fred Victor Employment Centre | Toronto | Sept 2025 – May 2026
During my placement with Fred Victor Employment Centre, I supported individuals navigating employment barriers, housing instability, income support systems and other challenges affecting their employment goals.
My work included facilitating employment-readiness workshops, providing one-to-one case management support and co-facilitating a weekly employment drop-in. I assisted participants with resumes, cover letters, job applications, interview preparation, resource navigation and identifying transferable skills.
Through the Social Service Training and Employment Program (SSTEP), I supported group programming serving approximately 20–25 participants per week while developing additional workbooks and learning materials to strengthen engagement and job-search preparation.
This placement strengthened my ability to combine practical employment support with trauma-informed, client-centred practice while working alongside individuals navigating multiple systemic barriers.
I facilitated practical employment-readiness workshops focused on helping participants translate their experience into stronger job-search skills. Sessions combined discussion, hands-on activities and individualized support around resumes, cover letters, interviews, transferable skills and navigating barriers to employment.
I also developed and adapted workbooks, exercises and learning materials to make workshop content practical, accessible and relevant to participants with different experiences and support needs.
My approach emphasized participation rather than presentation, creating space for people to ask questions, share experiences and apply what they were learning to their own employment goals.
I co-facilitated a weekly employment support drop-in providing individualized assistance with resumes, cover letters, job applications, interview preparation and job-search strategies.
The drop-in created space to work directly with participants who needed more individualized support, including helping people identify transferable skills and translate lived, volunteer and informal experience into language that employers could understand.
This work combined practical employment support with relationship building, allowing assistance to be adapted to each participant’s goals, circumstances and level of readiness.
